Ryertex® L - Linen is a fine weave cotton phenolic composite with 40% higher tensile strength than Grade C and is designed for tight tolerance fabrication and low moisture absorption.

Ryertex® L thermoset laminate is used in medium to heavy industrial applications for bearings, bushings and wear parts requiring tight tolerance fabrication.

The resiliency of plastics permits bearings to be installed with a much larger interference fit than with metal bearings. However, part of the interference dimension causes a reduction in the ID size. This is compensated for in the "as machined" ID of the bearing.

The OD of the Ryertex® and Nylon bearings is machined to 0.003" to 0.006" over the nominal 3 1/2" OD and 0.005" to 0.008" for larger sizes. This permits a press fit into a hole machined to the nominal size plus 0.001" minus 0.002". Due to the nature of plastics, changes in temperature and humidity may allow the bearings "as received" to have somewhat different tolerances than "as machined". If excessive interference fit (more than 0.008" for 3 1/2" OD and smaller or 0.010" for larger sizes) is found, the OD can be reduced by lightly sanding. Should the bearing be too loose, a bearing retaining compound, such as Locktite can be used. For Duralon the recommended press fit range is 0.0002" to 0.0022" and shouldn't exceed 0.007". A clearance fit of 0.0005" to 0.0015" is normally used between shaft and bearing ID. When installing, be sure the bearing is started square with the hole. Cutting a slight chamfer on the hold and the outside of the bearing is helpful. An arbor press is most desirable for press fitting although a hammer can be used if the end of the bearing is protected with a block of wood.
